Instructions to the owner on how to care for the animal after surgery

kaip prižiūrėti gyvūną po operacijos

Our clinic has prepared a special list of instructions for owners of animals that have undergone surgery. We give this to each pet when they go home. If it gets lost, you will always find it online on our website. You can also ask any other questions you may have about the care of animals after surgery at the bottom of this article.

  1. When you bring your pet home from the clinic on the day of surgery, you should try not to put it on a table, chair or other higher ground where it could fall or otherwise catch itself.
  2. It is preferable not to feed or to give little light food that day, as the anaesthesia may make the animal vomit. Provide water so that the animal can relieve itself if it wishes. The following day, apply a normal diet unless a special therapeutic diet is prescribed.
  3. Do not allow high climbing or jumping for the first 3-4 days, as the internal sutures of the surgery may tear.
  4. Do not let the wound and incision site open for a full ten days.
  5. If a hood has been placed on the animal, do not remove it for 10 days, or longer if so instructed.
  6. Be prepared for the animal to vomit and urinate under itself.
  7. There may be slight swelling of the tissues at the incision site. If the swelling appears red, slightly excessive or bleeding, visit a veterinary clinic immediately.
  8. It is advisable not to move the animal for 10 days after surgery until the sutures have been removed.
  9. The sutures should be removed 10 days later. If possible, it is better to arrive the day before the end of the time limit rather than afterwards, as the wound may start to fester.
