Diseases of the kidney and bladder in animals

Gyvūnų inkstų ir šlapimo pūslės ligos

Small animals are prone to kidney and urinary tract diseases. These diseases are divided into acute and chronic. Their causes, symptomatology, course and prognosis are different, so knowing the most important recognition signs can help to seek timely veterinary advice and to halt and control the disease.

One of the most common diseases in this group of diseases is urolithiasis. Animals of all ages, breeds and sexes are at risk of developing urolithiasis, but cats or dogs with narrower urinary tract are more likely to develop it. Another important factor is overweight. Improperly chosen pet food is one of the main causes of urolithiasis. If not detected in time, strange behaviour can lead to serious kidney, liver, heart problems or even bladder rupture.
