When treating your puppy becomes too expensive

Kai šunelio gydymas tampa per brangus

Another story from the clinic’s daily routine. Not a funny story, unfortunately, but one that invites us to learn from our mistakes and is especially suitable for those who are just thinking about getting a pet. One of the most important rules before deciding to keep an animal at home is to take full responsibility for its health and to be aware that in some cases this may entail unplanned financial costs. If you can’t provide that, think about whether the animal will really be happy with you.

In the photo below you will see a beautiful white West Highland terrier, Snowflake, a female. She was treated for parvovirus enteritis by our vet Inga Jančiūnaitė. Although the treatment was successful, it required patience from the owners. The owners complained that, despite clear signs of improvement, Snaigė was having diarrhoea and would not eat any food. The complaints gradually turned to despair and one day the puppy was abandoned in the care of the clinic. During the holidays, Dr Inga would bring Snaige home to receive full care and treatment. When the dog started to recover and slowly eat, the clinic made another attempt to contact the former owners and tried to convince them to renew and extend their friendship. Snowdrop returned to her old home. Unfortunately, not for long. The mare needed further treatment and medication. All this proved too expensive for the owners and they gave Snowdrop back to her breeders. As the animal needed treatment, it was taken to another veterinary clinic. After a long period of distraction, without proper attention, rest and peace of mind, Snowdrop died.

We will not repeat the moral of the story, it is too simple and elementary. We would just like to remind you that if you want to keep an animal in your home, in addition to the extra costs, you will also have to give it your precious time, love and patience. This is when true companionship with your pet and the true pleasure of caring for it will emerge.
